What is Nutritional Therapy?
Nutritional therapy is a evidence-informed field of healthcare that uses diet and lifestyle changes to support long term health. It is based on Functional Medicine which considers the body as an integrated whole and connects the dots between the things that are going wrong within our biology.
Nutritional therapy addresses underlying causes of a condition rather than just managing symptoms. This may require detective work. It typically involves taking a full health history, mapping symptoms and the potential connections between them and digging deeper into nutritional and physiological imbalances, which may be contributing to illness or may be risk factors for future chronic conditions. This then informs the development of a highly individualised nutrition and lifestyle plan. It is a collaborative process and can be very rewarding.
Nutritional therapy is not just for those who are already unwell. Nearly all of us could benefit from making changes that will optimise our health and make us feel better than we already do. You may think you have to live with energy slumps, dry skin, frequent colds or constipation but you really do not.
About Janey
Janey is a Registered Nutritional Therapist, graduating with a distinction from the Institute for Optimum Nutrition (DipION). This is her second career, after 25 years in advertising and bringing up a family. She is a member of the British Association for Nutrition and Lifestyle Medicine and the Complementary Health Care Council, which uphold the highest professional standards for Nutritional Therapy.
